Briefing

Brad's initial ideas for a new artwork direction for his releases were about visualising the music and turning it into artwork. A 'box' element was to be considered that would act as a frame to allow the visuals to fill the screen and surround the audience. A sense of depth in the piece was important too; almost as if we see the creative reach out towards us, and interact with us. The interplay between the visual breaking and creating the 'box' element gave us a strong theme to play on throughout the creatives.

Research & Development

Creating a relationship between the track's title and colourway helped further connect the visuals with the music. We wanted to be able to evolve the creative over time and quickly adapt to the different themes and emotions that each track and EP might explore. The 'box' element remained consistent throughout, being broken and shaped by the evolving forms within.

The OCULA logo mark was also to be a part of the creative, with the forms within the box interacting and playing with its structure.

Behind The Scenes

The colours from each form and particle are based on the vector movement and come from a chosen gradient form that relates to the track title.

We used the stem from the main or driving element of each track to power the initial movement. In one example, we used a pluck to drive the strength of a turbulence field on a cloth element, giving a stop-and-start effect.
