Sultan + Shepard — Forever, Now Visualiser

This Never Happened reached out to me about working on the visualisers for Sultan + Shepard's 'Forever, Now' album.

We created a series of bespoke visualisers which carried on the theme of exploring the infinite through seamless seascapes and waves against a horizon.

Research & Development

—

Stacking multiple effectors and looping videos of waves, currents, skies and shorelines allowed me to create a visualiser which felt like a living version of the artwork. Everything was made to feel seamless and effortless, calming but powerful. 

Some earlier concepts explored the ebb and flow of shorelines, the ripples of waves, and bubbles rising like an hourglass with your own reflection in them.

Motion

Simulating growth and timelapses of flowers growing in a looping pattern which pulse and dance to the beat of the music.

Tour Visuals

Using some of the elements and concepts for the visualisers, I created a selection of tour visuals to make the album tour feel complete and connected with the album. 

Outcome

—

Hosted on the This Never Happened YouTube channel, the album and singles received over 1.1 million views on YouTube, and 7.7 million streams on Spotify in the first year.

The album was also toured, selling out shows across the US.
